The College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka is situated on the southern slope of Kilimanjaro Mountain. The College was founded in 1963 and it is a Centre of Excellence in professional and technical wildlife management training. It is registered and accredited with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) in Tanzania and recognised Centre of excellence by the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). It is mandated to provide demand articluated training, research and consultancy services in African Wildlife Conservation and Management. Since its establishment the college has trained over 4000 students from 51 countries worldwide (28 African and 23 non-African countries), the majority are working in protected areas throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
